Coming into his own

For years he's been the kid with the great potential, a perennial top prospect with top-of-the-rotation stuff. Gavin Floyd had everything, it seemed, but the results. Now, after opening the season with two wins in two attempts, he seems to finally be putting it all together, a fact that bodes well for the White Sox' rotation.

But what did the 25-year-old Floyd say after holding the Tigers hitless for 7� innings Saturday? He said he was surprised he pitched so well. When he was warming up before the game, his goal was just to ''try to keep the team in the game for seven innings.''
