VIC: King St murderer jailed for 21 years
MELBOURNE, Dec 22 AAP - A man who claimed a business associate had committed suicide in a
Melbourne street was today sentenced to 21 years' jail for his murder.
Shane Alexander Cogley, 34, was sentenced to serve a minimum of 16 years for the shooting
murder of Kevin Hitchens, 29, in King Street, Melbourne, on June 28 last year.
Sentencing Cogley in the Victorian Supreme Court this morning, Justice Ashley said: "You
shot an unarmed man who was not offering you any violence".
Cogley, of the Melbourne suburb of Clayton, had pleaded not guilty to one count of murder.
His defence that Hitchens had shot himself was described by the judge as "a concoction".
"I reject your denial," Justice Ashley said..
